LAB HOME PAGE

Welcome to your Lab Home Page. This page will contain everything you need to know about the Labs for which you have registered. Videos, Handouts, Exercises, Tests, and Assignments can be accessed from this page.  Use the CHART VIEW to the left to see all the Units at once; and the UNIT VIEW on the right to see the info broken down by Unit.

If you have registered for multiple Labs, simply keep scrolling down the page to find the sections for each Lab.

GETTING STARTED

We suggest getting started in the following order:

First, take a look at the “Chart” view to see a comprehensive listing of all the videos, handouts, exercises, and assignments for your Lab.

Then, use either the “Chart” or “Unit” view to watch the first video from the first unit of the Lab.

To look at the “Chart” view, click the + on the right-end of the toggle that is titled as the “Chart” view for your Lab.  Here you will find a summary of what lies ahead for you in this course, as well as the name and contact info for your Evaluator, and a WELCOME sound file from your Evaluator with more instructions.

As a general rule:
1. Begin by watching the VIDEO for the unit.
2. Print out the HANDOUTS for your reference.
3. Do the EXERCISES to reinforce the videos. These are optional, and will not be graded.
4. Take the TESTS for each unit to reinforce the videos. These will be graded by the computer, and you can take them as many times as you want to improve your score.
5. Do the ASSIGNMENTS for the unit, and submit them to your evaluator for feedback. To submit your assignment: from either the “Chart” view or “Unit” view, you can click on the link to “Submit/Review” your assignment.  On that page, you will see a form where you can upload a document with your assignment.  It can be any kind of document you like (although PDF and DOC are preferred); but you can only upload ONE document per assignment.  If your assignment has several parts, combine your work into one document before submitting your assignment.  Also be sure to choose “READY FOR EVALUATION” in the drop-down box so that your evaluator will be notified that your assignment is ready for evaluation.

FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the “Chart” view?
The “Chart” view shows you a summary of all videos, handouts, exercises, tests and assignments for every unit of a specific Lab. For videos, handouts, and exercises, there will also be a direct link to download those files. For tests, there will be a record of whether you have taken the test or not, and your current grade; plus a link to print out the test; and a direct link to take or re-take the test. For assignments, there will be a record of whether you have taken the test or not, and your current grade; a link to print out the assignment; plus a direct link to either submit your assignment for feedback; or to check out the feedback from your evaluator once the assignment has been graded.
This view also shows you the name of your Evaluator for the Lab, and a direct link to email your Evaluator.

What is the “Unit” view?
The “Unit” view breaks down the Lab by Units – showing the individual videos, handouts, exercises, tests, and assignments for one unit at a time.

I can’t get the video to play – what should I do?
In order to play the videos, you need to have an up-to-date version of the Flash player from Macromedia. 98% of browsers (whether you are using a PC or a MAC) come with this feature, and it is a very handy feature for using many of today’s websites. If the videos won’t play for you, visit the Adobde website to make sure you have a flash player.

Can I watch the videos in any order?
We strongly encourage you to view the videos and complete the units in the order they are presented. All of the material builds upon previous units. However, the computer will not prevent you from skipping around the course in any order you desire.

I didn’t understand something in one of the videos; what do I do?
Please email us about your confusion so that we might address the issue in future incarnations of our labs. We will instruct our evaluators to attempt to clarify the answer to your question via email.

What’s the difference between a test and an assignment?
For the purposes of the Labs, a “Test” is graded instantly by the computer, and an “Assignment” is submitted to your Evaluator for review.

Can I take a test over again?
Yes. You can take a test as many times as you wish. Each time you take a test, however, the most current score replaces the previous one.

How do I submit an assignment?
From either the “Chart” view or “Unit” view, you can click on the link to “Submit/Review” your assignment.

Can I submit an assignment again?
No. Once you’ve hit SUBMIT, your assignment goes directly to your evaluator.

How do I know if I’ve passed a test or assignment?
The computer will grade your test automatically; and provide you with correct answers. At the end of the test, the computer will report your score and tell you whether it is a passing grade or not. You can also review your score on the “Chart” view under the section called “Lab Tests Summary”.
Your assignment will be graded by your evaluator, and you will receive an email when that evaluation is ready to be viewed (you can view your assignment results from the “Chart” view under “Lab Assignments Summary”.)

How can I telephone my evaluator?
We’re sorry, but we do not give out the telephone numbers of our evaluators. You may email them a question, but we do not encourage a long exchange of emails.
